I am a writer, editor, and academic.

Not always in that order. After graduating from Wesleyan University, I worked in publishing for several years (heureusement a few à Paris) until I returned to the States to begin an MFA in Poetry at Columbia University. I then went on to complete a PhD in Creative Writing/Literature followed by two years as a Postdoctoral Scholar with UC Berkeley's Beatrice Bain Research Group on Gender. Currently, I am a Research Scholar with UCLA's Center for the Study of Women.  From 2016-18, I served as Poet Laureate of Altadena.

I have taught Creative Writing, Literature, Gender and Girls' Studies at UC Berkeley, Scripps College, and Chapman University, and been a Writers in the Schools guest artist.  I have guest lectured at UCLA and the University of Southern California and designed and led custom writing workshops for the United Way, 826 Valencia, Beyond Baroque, WriteGirl, and the California Institution for Women.  For eight years, I taught for Writing Workshops Los Angeles and currently offer creative writing workshops for both brave and secret poets.  I have been in residence at Yaddo, the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, the Dorland Mountain Arts Colony, and was selected to be a California Resident at Yefe Nof. I am grateful to have received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Napa Valley Writers’ Conference, and the Rona Jaffe Fellowship for the Breadloaf Writers Conference.

Sharing the power and the pleasure of words is one of my strongest passions.

I would love to hear from you.
